Attorney Alyse D. Terhune, continues to walk the walk on the environment by trading in her Toyota Prius for an even more environmentally friendly Chevy Volt. “I’ve always been a ‘car person’ but I’m also interested in protecting the environment in any way I can,” explained Alyse. “The Volt satisfied both sides of my personality: it reduced my carbon footprint and feels like a sports car.” Of course, the $7,500 federal income tax credit for the Volt is an added benefit. (For more information about the EV tax credits, visit the US Department of Energy’s FuelEconomy.gov.)

Alyse plugs her car in at home and at the J&G office via a standard 120-volt outlet. It takes about 10 to 12 hours to charge the lithium-ion battery at approximately 16 cents per kilowatt hour in New York; the cost is lower at off-hours. The battery life is about 40 miles per charge. “You don’t have to have a charging station,” she says, “but I’m going to run a 220-volt line at home, which will reduce my charging time to about 3.5 to 4 hours.”
