LEGAL SERVICES FOR FIRST RESPONDERS
We are excited to share that J&G Law, LLP, has developed a First Responders* Program geared toward focusing our skills and strategies on the issues that are unique to police officers, firefighters and EMTs.
During the month of September, we are extending a special offer to area active and retired first responders and military personnel. This offer is valid for active or retired police officers, firemen, EMTs and military personnel having proof of residence in Orange, Sullivan or Ulster Counties.
A Last Will and Testament is a document that disposes of your property upon your death.
If you do not make a Will, state law prescribes what happens to your property. For example, under that law, if you leave behind a spouse and children, your spouse gets the first $50,000 in value. Your spouse then gets one-half of the remainder, and your children jointly get the other half. Most people do not like this arrangement so they make their own Will. State law also has requirements as to how Wills are to be written and signed. If those requirements are not met, administering the estate can be delayed, and the Will might be held to be invalid.
The simple Will in this offer will generally be 3-4 pages long and will not require tax planning, Medicaid or long-term care planning, generation-skipping, or a trust other than a standard trust for minors. It will include an outline of your family structure, provide for payment of debts and expenses, specify your bequests of your property, create simple trusts for minors, and identify your executor, trustee, and guardian for any minor children.
Maybe you are a NewYork City firefighter looking to move to the farthest northern point that you are allowed. Maybe you are a
police officer who is looking to dabble in real estate investments. Or maybe you just want
to escape apartment living. We can assist with all your real estate needs. We can also ensure you are receiving all the benefits possible. For example, in many municipalities, volunteer firefighters are given a property tax discount.
If you are an entrepreneur in addition to being a first responder, we can help make
sure you are protected and that your business
is operating as successfully as possible. Corporations and limited liability corporations are used to protect individuals from personal liability. Simply creating an entity can help protect you and your family in the long run.

what you have worked so hard for.
HEALTH CARE PROXY AND POWERS OF ATTORNEY:
No one likes to think about the worst case scenario, but there are documents that can easily be put in place to help protect your family and preserve your wishes. It is a simple process that can help your family and loved ones avoid making difficult decisions at a time where their focus should be elsewhere. We strongly encourage you to have a current Will, Health Care Proxy and Power of Attorney.
If you have been injured in an accident, don’t give any oral or written statements to an insurance company. The right lawyer can make all the difference when your family is counting on you.
We can provide legal direction with corporate formation, licensing, and general business, real estate, land use, zoning and environmental concerns as your new business takes shape.
Our attorneys handle all phases of litigation in areas including civil, matrimonial, estates, personal injury, real property, and environmental law.
